Illustration series created for SUTRA (“Tomorrow”), a collection of 21 stories by acclaimed Zagreb based writer and comic author Darko Macan, published by Kreativni Centar, Belgrade. Each story required a completely different visual approach — from character design and expressions to movement, atmosphere, and pacing — while still maintaining a shared emotional tone throughout the book.
The stories move between humor, darkness, and vulnerability, which naturally pushed the illustrations toward a more cinematic and comic-inspired language rather than traditional book illustration. Despite the stylistic variety, the full series was developed to feel cohesive, almost like a collection of still frames from an animated film or graphic novel.
This became my most extensive illustration project so far, both in scale and in the range of visual problems each story demanded. The book launch is accompanied by an exhibition of selected illustrations and process material.
Many thanks to editor Maša Tomanović.
