“Ispiću ti oka oba,
ta dva crna, hladna groba”
(“I would drain both of your eyes—those two dark, cold graves.”)
Work created for the exhibition Sevdalinka and Hasanaginica, held in May 2025 at the Cultural Center Gallery in Bijelo Polje, as part of the Days of Bosniak Culture in Montenegro.
The piece is a visual interpretation of verses from the traditional song Ašik osta na te oči (also known as Oj kaduno), based on a text by Osman Đikić. One of the earliest recorded versions, performed by Edo Ljubić in 1940, includes these lines.
In many contemporary interpretations, these verses have been altered or omitted, softening the song’s darker tone and diminishing the striking emotional imagery present in the original. In Ljubić’s rendition, these lines stand as a kind of culmination.
Many thanks to Tijana Gordić for the invitation, and especially to Mirsad Rastoder for the opportunity to be part of this exhibition.
